How shall I restore my A300U?

So, I have a A300U in bad shape. the chrome plating is peeling off in big chunks.

Since the watch is in excellent shape otherwise, AND it's a nice collectible watch worthy of restoring, I was thinking about fixing it up.

I actually have access to state-of-the-art electro-plating equipment at my job, but I want to keep this a "home remedy." Besides, I don't think the case is conductive resin.

I thought I could remove the peeling chrome paint, and re-paint the watch with some cool colors. I have some modeler's paint, maybe I can use that stuff and paint it "gunmetal," just like the guns on my P-51. Or paint it "navy gray" like the fuselage. Or bright red/yellow like the propeller tips?

What do you guys think? Do you want me to fix this one? Do you want me to take some pictures of the process? Should I write another article? hmm hmm?

KEEP IN MIND that the watch uses a stainless steel band. But I guess I can always paint the band to watch the watch.
